Islamlar is a fabulous base from which to enjoy the region. Kalkan is only a 15 minutes drive away and the fabulous beach at Patara just a few minutes more. Using your inclusive vehicle the Taurus Mountains and the Lycian coast await your exploration.
Historically it was only possible to visit Islamlar to dine in one of the renowned village trout restaurants whilst admiring the views across the mountain range to Kalkan and the long stretch of beach at Patara. Gradually, however, a few houses have become available for guests to enjoy.
The village itself provides a real insight into life as it has been in rural Turkey for many years. The Turkish Tea ( Çay ) garden where the men of the village put the world to rights over glasses of tea, the bakery that still uses an old mill-stone and the wonderful architecture all provide authentic flavour.
We have already alluded to the quality of the restaurants – simple local produce, organic and bursting with taste. Should you wish to dine in Kalkan and not drive, it is possible to arrange a taxi one way or both, ensuring that you will never feel too remote in your peaceful haven!
In short, this region has something for everyone!
The delightfully remote location offers a good choice of restaurants, either in the selection of well-renowned mountain restaurants in and around islamlar itself or in nearby Kalkan. The mountain restaurants specialise in simple, real Turkish cuisine which includes home-reared trout. All of which is enjoyed whilst admiring the most stuning mountain scenery.
Villa Holidays in Kalkan Mountain Villas
Islamlar village, known as Bodamya or Bodamia in ancient Greek times is located 7 km from Kalkan center, 37 km from Kas and 190 km from Antalya. The altitude of the village is about 700 meters and is located in a wonderfully lush area at the foot of Taurus Mountains.
The local industries are mostly olive growing and growing grapes for wine but this has started to change in last years as there is a growing demand for private holiday villas and pensions in Islamlar. After some UK citizens discovered the area and built some houses or renovated some old stone houses for holiday purpose, the demand started to increase and now more and more villas are built in the village to rent to local or foreign holiday makers. As it is very hot in Kalkan center and crowded in summer, for holiday makers who prefer a quiet and a cooler holiday Islamlar is the perfect choice.
Islamlar is a simple village set in the mountains with spectacular views down to Kalkan and Patara beach in the distance. Kalkan is fifteen minutes drive and the Mediterranean's longest sandy beach Patara is thirty-five minutes drive away.
here are some great walking paths surrounding the village or drive around exploring the stunning Taurus mountains.
